About Us
Motiv Engines is developing a spinout technology from Caterpillar, Inc. for an engine that is double the efficiency of gasoline car engines, is highly compact, inexpensive to manufacture and can burn hydrogen as a fuel with no emissions other than water.

Ed is the founder of Motiv Engines, his second company. Prior to Motiv, Mr. O’Malley co-founded Black Rock Systems, a manufacturer of diesel auxiliary power units for over-the-road trucks. At Black Rock he served in many capacities including CTO, VP Operations and VP Business Development. Prior to Black Rock, Ed was an aerospace engineer at Futron Corporation where he worked on the International Space Station for NASA. Ed has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Babson College.

John is the inventor of Motiv’s technology, an accomplishment made while a Senior Engine Research Engineer at Caterpillar where he spent 24 years. John undertakes key technical projects for Motiv as well as advising on product design and specifications. Prior to Caterpillar John worked for Noel Penny Turbines, the UK’s National Gas Turbine Establishment, International Computers and Tabulators and apprenticed at Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Division. John received a First Class Honours Batchelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol.

Bill is Manager of Corporate Technology Licensing at Caterpillar and Innovation Center of Excellence, a business he founded in 2000. Bill has held several management and engineering positions at Cat since 1988. Prior to that Bill joined Sundstrand Aviation as an aerospace engineer responsible for pumping systems on the Space Shuttle, Tomahawk Missile and F-18 fighter. Having studied in Austria and the US, Bill holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Physics and an MBA from Bradley University.

As president of Bently Nevada Corp. until its sale to GE, Roger provided the day-to-day leadershi to grow the business from a small sensor company to a global supplier of industrial electronic protection, diagnostic and management systems for rotating machinery with sales over $250 million. As president of Harker Enginuity Inc., Roger has provided technical and marketing consulting services to a number of early stage companies in the energy and power generation industries. Roger has a B.S. in electrical engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
